Second session: the Orestes trilogy as a whole

Handouts outlining some key topics for discussion and advice on different translations will be provided in advance.

We shall look at major themes, especially transformations of the Homeric legacy; as well as handling of dramatic motivation, designs of plot structure, visual stage effects and significant features of language and style, in an attempt to assess what qualities have caused this trilogy to be judged a lasting masterpiece
