We attempt to unravel the many mysteries of the Bayeux tapestry: who commissioned it, who sewed it, why was it made and what does it teach us? It is a work of contemporary propaganda, huge historic importance and great artistic value, and the world is enormously lucky that it has survived for nearly a thousand years. We examine the tapestry in detail to draw our own conclusions.
