Description: How did this jewel rise from the marshes of the Veneto? So different from anywhere else in the world. An enormous subject, so this is a six-part programme with a light touch covering a few of the many facets of Venice: its palaces, churches, paintings, music, trading and political history. The course will mainly focus on a period experienced from the start to the end of the British aristocratic Grand Tour. All presented with lots of illustrations.
