Description: The Knight of the Burning Pestle by Francis Beaumont was first performed in 1607. Structured as a play-within-a-play, it is a high spirited burlesque of knight-errantry of the Don Quixote type, which satirises the contemporary audiences's taste for impossible Romances. The anonymous Arden of Faversham, first published in 1592, is based on Holinshed’s Chronicles account of the reign of Edward VI which details the real-life murder of Thomas Arden, mayor of Faversham in 1551, by his wife Alice and her lover Mosby.

You will need a copy of both plays.
