| Description: | From medieval origins to exuberant Renaissance: from elegant Classicism to revolutionary Romantics; from Symbolist aesthetic to Surrealist excess; to the stylistic re-imaginings of the post-war generations – together we will read a selection of the many sparkling gems that form the centuries-long tradition of poetry in French. |
Some knowledge of French will be helpful, but not essential. Copies of all the poems we will examine – the French originals together with parallel English translations – will be provided.
