Canterbury & District

Outing: Rochester

Do join us for a relaxed trip around historic Rochester.

Event type: Outing
Date: 25th September 2026
Time: 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
Group: Holidays & Outings
Cost: £45
Booking: Note that booking is required.
Please note that this outing will involve more walking than our usual outings - probably a couple of hours spread through the day.

Our coach will pick us up at Canterbury Bus Station at 9:30 and take us to Rochester Cathedral, where we will have tea/coffee and cakes (included) in the Cathedral crypt before being given a guided tour around the Cathedral.  The Cathedral, which took 159 years to build, has a colourful thousand year history of desecration, disrepair, renovation and remodelling.

We will then break for lunch. You can bring your own or there are plenty of local cafes and restaurants around to choose from.

We will reconvene at the Guildhall Museum for an introductory talk by Jeremy Clarke (Heritage Development Officer for Medway) in the Great Hall, followed by the opportunity to look at some of the exhibitions - Medway prison Hulks, Rochester Castle under siege etc.

From the museum we will stroll down the High Street on a self-guided tour with printed notes explaining the history behind the various buildings.

We'll start taking bookings at the beginning of July.
